Hair Salon

This past week the children took turns playing "Hair Salon" in the dramatic play area. They practiced sharing the hair dryer, curling iron, straightener, and brush. They all took turns getting to be the customer. Even Mrs. Nehls had a turn!

Making Dough

This week we have been reading the book The Little Red Hen. The children have been taking turns retelling the story by using puppets and saying the character's lines. We also spent some time talking about what ingredients you need to make bread. Yesterday we had a blast making our own dough! We worked together to combine flour, water, salt, oil, and a little food coloring to make it. Thank you to all of the parents who donated supplies and who helped in the classroom yesterday! We had a lot of fun!

Parachute

We really enjoyed playing with our new parachute during movement time yesterday! We practiced making big, fast waves and little, slow waves. Miss Monica gave us the directions in Spanish by saying "rĂ¡pido" and "lento!" Thank you for the wonderful gift from our Amazon Wish List!

Highlights from the week

Sorry I didn't get a chance to post very often this week! Here are some of the highlights from our week!
We completed our first "homework page" by creating our own Mat Man.
Some princesses took a break from playing to read some favorite stories in the book area.

We explored with magnets!
Some of our magnet pieces even stuck to our white board!
Thank you for the gift from our Amazon Wish List!  We enjoyed learning the new game called "The Sneaky Snacky Squirrel."
Finally, some friends worked together in the block area to create a church!

Handwriting Without Tears

The children are putting the Handwriting Without Tears Materials to good use. The wooden pieces consist of big curves, little curves, big lines, and little lines. That is all we need to make all the letters of the alphabet. Next week we start our "homework books." We are so excited!

Nature Collage

Today we continued learning about the changing of seasons. We went for a nature walk around campus and picked up any leaves or sticks that we found. When we returned to our classroom we created a picture or collage with them by gluing our "nature treasures" onto our papers.

Work Time

Today we had a very creative morning work time!
Some children worked together to build their own version of our bible story this week, Noah's Ark.
Presley and Angielina put on a show for some classmates by reading a story and dancing.
Some children enhanced their fine motor skills by making "ABC jewelry."
Others pretended to take care of babies in the dramatic play area of our classroom.

Exploring with Flip Crayons

Today we tried out our Flip Crayons (ask your child why they are called Flip Crayons) from our Handwriting Without Tears Curriculum. We drew on paper that was taped to the wall. While we were drawing we listened to music. When the music was fast we drew faster and when the music was slow we drew slower. What a fun way to practice our grip!

Please Vote!

Please take a minute and vote for St. Paul's First Lutheran School! Thanks for all of the support!

Leaves!

This week at the sensory table the children have a opportunity to explore the crunchy texture of leaves. They use magnifying glasses to look closely and share their observations with their classmates. At our morning circle time we read the story Leaves. This led to a discussion about falling leaves and the changing of seasons.
