School Community

Today we took a walk around our school community. We peeked inside the first and second grade classrooms while we walked. We went inside the library/computer lab. While we were there we listened to a couple stories and pretended to work on the computers.

Using Our Senses

The children explored with their senses during a science activity this week. They smelled bananas and coffee beans. They were able to touch sticky contact paper, soft flour, and  jiggly jello. There were also some mystery bags they could shake.

Pumpkin Patch

Here are some pictures from our field trip to Underwood Family Farms.
First we took a tractor ride around the farm.
We even went through a couple of tunnels.

It was very sunny, but we stopped quick to take a class picture.
All of the children enjoyed looking through the pumpkin patches to find the best pumpkin to take home.

We ended the trip with some playtime at the playground.
We had a great time!

Our Class Pumpkin!

Yesterday we a great time at Underwood Family Farm (look for pictures soon)! While we were there we got a big pumpkin for our class to share. First, the students all made predictions as to what was inside of the pumpkin. Some guesses included: seeds, pumpkin slime, spaghetti noodles, flowers, pumpkin spice, and butter. After opening the pumpkin, everyone (who wanted to) got to put their hand inside and pull out some seeds. See you all at Fall Festival tomorrow!

Solid, Liquid, and Gas

Today we learned a little bit about the differences between solids, liquids, and gases. We talked about how water is a liquid and it can become a solid or a gas. The children explored with water at the sensory table. They used cups and containers to measure and pour water. During art we painted with colored ice cubes. We discovered that when the ice melted it left color on our paper. We felt a gas by holding a hand in front of our mouth and exhaling on it.
