More fun in K4

We practiced our handwriting and letters while we made birthday cards for Mr. Koeppel.

We used unfix cubes to create our own AB patterns.
 Making rainbows
We used our fingerprints to make leaves on a tree.
At the easel we finger painted.

Our weekly bible story was Noah's Ark. We helped build an ark with the blocks.

Learning Lots

On Friday each of the children got a turn to be the teacher and retell the Creation bible story.

During circle time we read the story Elmer about a patchwork elephant. During art we created our own version on Elmer.

We love listening to stories at circle time.
Our favorite book the first week was Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus!

We practiced recognizing number 1-6 and counted using one-to-one correspondence by playing a fish bowl game. We put the right number of goldfish on each bowl and then enjoyed a yummy snack.

During free choice time some friends painted at the easel.

First Days of K4

We are off to a great start this year! We have been exploring our new classroom and getting used to a new routine.
Exploring the family area during playtime
Checking out the book area
On the first day we even had a little time to learn some Spanish with Mrs. Gabb. We practiced saying our favorite colors in Spanish.
 Drawing in the art center
We enhanced our fine motor skills by using gator grabbers to sort animals in our sorting trays. We practiced sorting by kinds of animals and then by color. We also took a few minutes to count and see which category had the most.

We helped "clean" blocks at the sensory table.
Today we practiced writing our names. We also made our first journal entries!

Flowers and Using a Balance

During art the children created their own flower garden. We talked about how flowers have buds or blossoms, stems, and leaves. Then the children used tissue paper and green markers to create their own flowers.

This week we also learned how to use a balance. We experimented with different objects around our classroom to see which one was heavier or lighter. We put an object on one side and counted how many bears it would take to make both sides equal.

The children are looking close to see if the arrow match up to show that the two sides of the balance are the same.
